counter-pincer
A counter-pincer answers an opponent’s pincer with a pincer of your own, turning a one-sided attack into a mutual-pincer fight.
A counter-pincer is a pincer move directed against a stone or group that has just made a pincer. After being pincered, the player pincers the opposing pincer stone or another nearby stone, producing opposing pincers in the same local fight.
This move counteracts the opponent’s attack and keeps the initiative. It may force the opponent to choose between escaping and continuing the attack. Unlike a simple escape, a counter-pincer immediately creates a counterattack against the opposing attacking stone. Its value depends on the surrounding stones and ladder conditions, as well as whether the move leaves the original stone or group enough room to escape.
