Tedomari
The last significant move in a local position before further play there loses its value.
Also known as
Tedomari—also described as the “last significant move” or “last play”—is the final worthwhile move available in a particular local position or area. Once it has been played, additional moves in that area have little or no value.
In the endgame, players compare the remaining local plays and choose the final valuable one as part of the correct sequence. Tedomari is local: it does not necessarily coincide with the last move of the whole game. It helps identify when an area has been played out and supports accurate endgame timing and move order. The term is more specific than yose, which refers broadly to the endgame phase and its plays. It is not simply the last stone played in the game; sente, ko threats, and changes elsewhere may alter whether a move is truly the tedomari.
