Reverse komi
A komi adjustment that awards points to Black rather than White.
Also known as
Negative komi
Reverse komi—also called negative komi—is a scoring adjustment in which a specified number of points is added to Black’s score at scoring. Depending on the ruleset, the same arrangement may be recorded as negative komi for White.
Unlike ordinary komi, which awards points to White to offset Black’s first move, reverse komi gives the compensation to Black. It is used to balance games or compensate Black in formats where the usual first-move advantage is handled differently. The amount and the convention for displaying the score vary by ruleset, so a komi value must always be interpreted within the scoring system being used.
