A Knight’s move approach is a knight’s-move approach to an opponent’s corner stone, typically played against a 4-4 stone from the 5-3 or 3-5 point. The approaching stone forms a keima relationship with the corner stone, pressuring the corner while keeping options open for subsequent joseki.
This move challenges the opponent’s corner position and can support influence or development along the side. It should not be confused with a generic keima, which describes a stone-connection shape; Knight’s move approach specifically means an approach move directed at a corner stone. The move does not settle the corner on its own. The opponent’s reply and the resulting joseki determine whether the approach produces territory, influence, or initiative.
