A keima shimari is a shimari in which the enclosing stone is placed at a keima from the original corner stone. This placement reinforces the corner while extending influence toward the side and center, securing the corner efficiently and creating a strong base for future development.
Compared with a large-knight enclosure, the keima shimari uses the smaller knight’s-move spacing, so it is generally more compact. It is not invulnerable, however: its approach points, as well as possible reductions or invasions, still need to be considered when judging the position.
