two-space enclosure
A corner enclosure that places the second stone two spaces from the first.

A two-space enclosure (Niken jimari) is a corner enclosure in which a stone is added two spaces from an existing corner stone to form a shimari. The two stones work together to secure the corner: their spacing and direction protect the corner while also developing outward along the side.
Its purpose is to consolidate the corner and establish influence or an extension toward the side. Unlike a two-space jump, this is specifically a corner enclosure intended to secure territory in the corner. Its effectiveness depends on the surrounding stones, however. Approach or invasion possibilities may remain, and the chosen direction of development can become inefficient in an unfavorable position.
