Meijin
A major Japanese professional Go title and the name of its holder.
Meijin is one of Japan’s seven major professional Go titles; the term can also refer to the player who holds it. The title is contested through a professional title match organized within Japan’s professional Go system.
Its purpose is to recognize the leading performance in the Meijin title competition. Historically, Meijin denoted the highest-ranking or most prestigious rank for a Go player in Japan. In modern Go, it primarily identifies a specific championship title and its holder. Do not confuse the Meijin title with the Meijin title match itself, or with the historical office of Meijin.
