Oza (also written Ōza) is one of Japan’s seven major professional Go titles. It is awarded through the Oza title competition, an annual event that is considered one of Japan’s most prestigious professional Go competitions. Its champion is recognized with the Oza title.
Oza refers both to the title itself and to the associated title competition. It is a competitive distinction, not a Go-playing technique or a position on the board. Oza should not be confused with Japan’s other six major titles: Tengen, Meijin, Honinbo, Judan, Kisei, and Gosei.
