Dame
An empty Go point that belongs to neither player and normally has no territory value.

In Go, a dame is an empty board point that belongs to neither player. It is not counted as territory for Black or White. Dame points are usually left vacant when the game ends, because playing on one generally does not change the score.
A dame is not simply any empty point next to a stone or chain—that is a liberty—and it is not enclosed or owned territory. However, an apparently neutral point can still have a tactical function, such as providing a liberty or connecting stones. For that reason, players should not automatically ignore every dame during play; its neutral scoring status does not mean that occupying it is always strategically pointless.
