point

A point—also called an intersection—is an intersection of lines on a Go board. Stones are placed on points, not inside the board’s squares. On a standard 19×19 board there are 361 points, and a move normally occupies one empty point. A point may then be occupied by a Black or White stone, or remain empty.

Points are the basic locations used for moves, connections, liberties, territory, and board coordinates. An empty point may ultimately be counted as territory or identified as a neutral point, depending on the position and scoring context. The word can also mean a unit of territory or score, which is different from the physical intersection itself.
