A Double approach is a move that approaches two opposing corner stones at the same time. It is placed so that it functions as an approach to each of two nearby enemy stones, most often in a corner or an opening formation.
The aim is to put pressure on both stones and restrict the opponent’s ability to develop them comfortably. Unlike an ordinary kakari, which approaches one corner stone, a double approach targets two stones simultaneously.
Its value depends greatly on the surrounding position. If played at the wrong time, the approaching stone may be counterattacked or left weak.
