Connected
A connection links stones or groups into one unit and prevents the opponent from separating them.
Also known as
In Go, stones are connected when they are linked directly or through other stones, forming a connection that prevents the opponent from separating them. The link can be physical: stones joined orthogonally belong to one chain. It can also be tactical, when the stones are linked by a connection that the opponent cannot cut profitably.
Connection preserves the unity and strength of stones, prevents cutting, and may allow them to share liberties and support one another. Connected describes the resulting relationship or state. Direct connection and indirect connection describe how the link is formed, while a connecting move is the action that creates it.
A shape that looks connected is not necessarily tactically secure. It may still be vulnerable to a forcing cut or depend on further reading.
