Current territory
The secure points that can be counted as territory in the present position.
Also known as
Current territory, also known as Solid territory, is the territory a player has already secured in the present position. It consists of empty points enclosed and protected by stones strongly enough that the opponent cannot realistically invade and live there.
It provides the immediate territorial basis for evaluating the score and comparing secure profit with potential territory or influence. This makes it different from a moyo: a moyo is a framework or potential area that still requires further play before it becomes territory. Do not count an apparently enclosed area as current territory when invasion, reduction, or unresolved life-and-death issues could still substantially change its value.
