Jitsuri is the concrete, countable territorial profit secured by a player’s stones. It refers to actual territory or points that have been established, rather than value that might be realized later.
A player pursues jitsuri through plays that establish or protect territory, generally favoring immediate points over outward influence. The term therefore describes and helps evaluate a strategic preference for reliable territorial gain. This contrasts with influence, which is outward power and potential future value rather than secured territory.
Even territory that looks secure may still be reduced or invaded. Jitsuri should consequently be judged in the context of the whole-board position, not treated as an isolated or automatically final advantage.
