Go stones
The black and white pieces placed on the intersections of a Go board.
Also known as
stones
Go stones are the black and white pieces placed on the intersections of the Go board. Each player uses one color, and stones are placed to build chains, surround territory, and create tactical positions.
Players alternate placing stones on empty intersections. Once played, a stone is not moved. It may later be captured when its chain has no remaining liberties, in which case the captured stones are removed from the board. This is a key difference from pieces in many other board games: Go stones remain where they were played unless they are captured.
