even game

A Go game or position in which neither side has a clear advantage.

Also known as

balanced game

An even game is a Go game or position in which the two sides are approximately equal in strength or prospects. It is used to describe an even matchup or a position that is objectively balanced, whether assessed during play or in a particular position.

This term describes the balance of the game or position; it does not mean that the game ended in a draw. In Go, a drawn result is called jigo. An even position can also change as play continues: one side may later gain an advantage through accurate moves, strategic decisions, or an opponent’s mistake.
