Jubango

A Jubango is a match in which the same two Go players contest up to ten games as a single series. It is therefore a multi-game match format, not one individual game, a tournament, or an opening system.

Historically, jubango matches were used to compare the players’ relative strength and, in professional Go, to establish prestige or status between them. The conditions could reflect their strength difference: players might meet even, or the weaker player might receive a handicap. In modern usage, the term may be used more broadly for any ten-game series, while historical jubango carried formal status and handicap conventions.
