Strategic group
A set of stones evaluated together because they share a strategic purpose.
A strategic group is a set of stones whose positions and objectives are considered together as one strategic unit. The stones do not have to be physically connected: separate chains or formations can belong to the same group when they serve a shared strategic function.
In play, the player coordinates the group’s moves and evaluates its combined influence, territory, strength, weaknesses, and strategic targets. This organizes whole-board planning and helps determine how the related stones should cooperate in attack, defense, development, or territorial strategy, rather than judging each stone or chain in isolation.
A strategic group is an analytical concept, not a formally bounded shape. Its membership and strategic role can change as the position develops.
