corner
One of the four board regions where two Go board edges meet.
In Go, the corner is one of the four corner areas of the board, bounded by two intersecting board edges. Its shape and location are defined by those two edge directions, and it includes familiar opening points such as 3-3, 4-4, 3-4, and 5-3.
Corners are a major focus of opening play because they are comparatively easy to secure as territory: stones can rely on two board edges for support. The corner is distinct from both the side and the center. It offers stronger territorial support from the edges, but stones played there generally exert less outward influence than stones in more central areas.
