High point
The 4–5 corner opening point, known for its outward influence and rapid development.
Also known as
The High point, also known as Takamoku, is a corner point at the intersection of the fourth line from one board edge and the fifth line from the adjacent edge. A stone played there is one line farther from the corner along one coordinate than the 4–4 hoshi point, and one line farther along the other coordinate than the 3–4 komoku point. It is an uncommon corner opening point.
The 4–5 point emphasizes outward influence and quick development while retaining some potential in the corner. As a result, it has a more influence-oriented character than komoku. High point is distinct from komoku (3–4), hoshi (4–4), mokuhazushi (5–3), and sansan (3–3). It should not be confused with the 4–4 star point: although both are on the fourth line in one coordinate, they have different standard opening implications.
