Attachment

An Attachment, also called Tsuke, is a move played directly adjacent to an opposing stone. Depending on the local shape and terminology, the contact may be orthogonal or diagonal. The attaching stone immediately touches the opponent’s stone and typically begins a forcing exchange, fight, or sequence that changes the shape.

The aim may be to challenge the stone, induce a particular response, exploit cutting points, or create tactical complications. An Attachment is defined by this direct contact, so it differs from a non-contact approach move, an extension, or an ordinary diagonal move. Its value depends heavily on shape and reading: it can be ineffective when the opponent answers profitably or gains strength on the outside.
