A direct contact move that presses against an opponent’s stone.

A bump is a move played directly adjacent to an opponent’s stone, making contact with it. The played stone occupies a point immediately beside the opposing stone, usually along the same line, creating a close-contact position.
A bump can apply pressure, induce a local response, help settle shape, or begin a tactical exchange. Unlike an attachment, which commonly contacts a stone diagonally, a bump is a more direct, head-on contact move. However, a bump is not automatically beneficial. Its value depends on the resulting liberties, the shape that develops, and the support available in the surrounding position.
