Sealed move

A sealed move is the move selected by the player whose turn it is when a Go game is adjourned. The player records the move without revealing it, places the record in a sealed envelope or an equivalent container, and the move is disclosed and played when the game resumes.

This procedure suspends the game without giving either player information about the next move or an opportunity to alter the position during the adjournment. A sealed move is therefore a concealed move made as part of an adjourned game, not a pass: it still places a stone on the board. The exact use and procedure depend on the tournament rules, and modern games commonly continue without adjournment.
