Hane-tsugi
A hane followed by a connection, combining pressure with reinforcement.
Hane-tsugi is a Go sequence in which a hane is followed by a tsugi, or connection. The hane forces or invites a response around an opposing stone; the subsequent connection links the played stones so that their strength and continuity are preserved.
This sequence applies pressure to the opponent while securing your own stones and preventing them from being cut. It is therefore both an attacking maneuver and a way to reinforce the resulting shape. Unlike a double hane, hane-tsugi describes a hane-and-connection sequence, not two successive hanes.
The connection is not automatically correct. Its value depends on the resulting liberties, available cutting points, and the local exchanges that follow.
