point

The basic scoring unit in Go: usually one point of territory or one captured stone.

Also known as

moku

A point, also called a moku, is one unit counted in a Go score. Most commonly, it means an empty point enclosed by a player’s territory, or one captured stone under a territory-scoring convention. Under area scoring or other rules, living or captured stones may also contribute one point each.

Moku is the basic measure used for territory, score differences, and komi. It is not the same as komi, which is a fixed score adjustment, nor is it a handicap stone, which is a stone placed on the board before play. The treatment of stones and empty territory depends on whether area scoring or territory scoring is used, so moku should not be assumed to mean every counted stone or every intersection in every ruleset.
