Monkey jump
A low second-line jump used to slide along the edge and reduce territory or a corner enclosure.
Also known as
The Monkey jump is typically a two-space jump on the second line near the edge of the board. It is commonly played to reduce territory along the side or to erode a corner enclosure. Unlike an ordinary jump, it specifically describes this low, sliding maneuver along the second line.
The move uses the edge and the shape it creates to make an effective block difficult or costly. At the same time, it preserves a route for the moving stones to escape or continue along the side. Its low position is also its main risk: it may concede outside influence, or the stones may become trapped if the surrounding tactical reading is inaccurate.
