Big moyo

A Big moyo is a broad framework of stones that encloses or projects influence over a substantial area of the board, creating the potential for considerable territory. It is built through coordinated stones, often along the sides and in the corners, and helps shape the strategic direction of the game by developing large-scale territorial potential and influence.

A moyo is not yet secure territory. Before it becomes confirmed territory, it can be expanded, reduced, or invaded through further play. Unlike confirmed territory, its value depends on whether it can withstand reduction or invasion. A large moyo is therefore not automatically large territory: relying on it too heavily may let the opponent invade or reduce it while gaining profit elsewhere. It is also known as a Big framework.
