Sanrensei

Sanrensei is a fuseki formation in which three stones occupy three consecutive hoshi, or star points, along one side of the board. It is a formation rather than a single move. By lining up three star-point stones, the position creates outward-facing influence and the potential for a large moyo.

The aim is to develop influence quickly and build a framework, especially toward the center and the adjacent sides. Sanrensei differs from nirensei, which uses only two star-point stones. Its influence still needs support from subsequent play: if the framework becomes overextended, it can be reduced or invaded.
