Shinte
A newly discovered move that introduces an unrecognized idea and can reshape the understanding of a position.
A Shinte is a new or newly discovered move that presents an idea previously unknown or not fully recognized in a position. It changes the established understanding of that position, perhaps by creating a new variation, improving on a familiar sequence, or challenging a joseki.
The aim of a shinte is to offer a stronger, more effective, or strategically significant way to play. Its defining feature is novelty, not brilliance: a move may be a shinte even if later analysis shows that its value is limited. Novelty alone does not prove that the move is correct. A purported shinte must be tested through reading and analysis before its soundness can be established.
