Suso
The lower edge and supporting space beneath a Go group or moyo.
Also known as
Suso is the base, or lower edge, of a Go group or moyo. It is usually the part that extends toward the side or corner of the board. The suso includes both the stones forming this bottom boundary and the nearby space that supports it.
Its shape and openness influence possible extensions, invasions, and territorial development. Players use the concept to judge how securely a group or moyo is supported and how much potential remains along its base. The suso itself is the base; susoaki refers specifically to openness or space at that base. Its orientation depends on the position and surrounding framework, so suso does not simply mean any edge of the board.
