Go

A two-player strategic board game of surrounding territory and capturing stones.

Also known as

WeiqiBadukIgo

Go is a two-player board game in which Black and White alternately place stones on the intersections of a grid. Stones normally remain where they are placed unless they are captured. Players seek to surround territory while also capturing opposing stones.

The aim is to finish with more points than the opponent. Successful play balances territorial development, influence, attack, defense, and capture. A game ends when both players pass; scoring is based primarily on territory and captured stones, with the exact calculation subject to local rules and komi.

Go, also known as Weiqi, Baduk, or Igo, is one game with established names in different linguistic and cultural traditions—not a set of separate games.
