Divine move

A divine move is a move regarded as extraordinarily brilliant, profound, or unexpectedly powerful—sometimes so remarkable that it seems almost superhuman. Its strength may become clear only through difficult reading, an unexpected tactical resource, or a deep strategic judgment. The term describes the move’s exceptional quality and context; it is not determined by a separate game rule.

Players use the expression to emphasize a move that significantly changes the evaluation, resolves a difficult position, or demonstrates remarkable insight. It is an evaluative description, not a formal move type or a fixed tesuji pattern. The term is also subjective and often hyperbolic: a move may be called divine for its practical or aesthetic brilliance even when its objective superiority depends on the position and subsequent analysis.
