Haengma

The coordinated and efficient flow of stones in a position.

Haengma is the way stones are played and developed in relation to one another. It emphasizes efficient movement, coordination, and good shape rather than judging stones in isolation.

Good haengma selects moves that preserve useful connections while maintaining appropriate speed, flexibility, and efficient development in response to nearby stones. Its purpose is to coordinate stones effectively, preserve their potential, and avoid heavy, inefficient, or disconnected formations.

Haengma describes an overall principle or flow of stone movement, not one particular move or fixed shape. A move that looks fast or active is not automatically good haengma: its efficiency depends on the surrounding position and on how well the stones work together.
