The strategic movement and coordination of stones and groups across the Go board.
Movement is the movement of stones or groups through successive plays, considered in terms of direction, timing, coordination, and efficiency. It is a broad strategic concept rather than a single move pattern or named technique, and overlaps with the flow of the stones and the mobility of groups.
Movement is created when plays extend, connect, separate, attack, defend, or redirect existing groups. Its quality depends on the resulting shape, liberties, influence, and initiative. Good movement develops stones efficiently, preserves flexibility, supports weak groups, and applies pressure while maintaining strategic balance.
Active movement is not automatically good. Movement that is inefficient or premature can produce overconcentration, bad shape, or loss of sente.
