Tewari

Tewari is an analysis of a played sequence in which the order of the moves is changed, often restoring the stones to a simpler or more easily assessed position. The stones are examined through a different move order, usually by separating exchanges or rearranging local plays while preserving the resulting position as far as possible.

Its purpose is to judge the contribution of individual moves, detect slack or bad moves, and assess the balance of a sequence such as a joseki. Tewari is therefore a method for analyzing an existing sequence, not a move or pattern played during the game. The rearrangement may change sente, timing, or tactical possibilities, so it must not be treated as fully equivalent without verification.
